The fixture was played two rinks at home and two away, with Stonyhill winning on three of the four rinks.

The next league game will be played against Havering by June 17 and after that, Stonyhill will meet, Tye Green, Colchester and Jacks.

Stonyhill won the league three years running from 2007 but slipped to second place in 2010 and third place last year.

The return fixture will be played on eight rinks and priority will be given to Stonyhill players who played the home game. A coach will leave Stonyhill at 10am and is due to arrive back at around 9pm. Space permitting, non-bowlers will be welcome to join the outing.

It was a low-scoring game with Tony ahead by just one point after 25 ends when the scoreline was 17 – 16.

But the pace changed on the next end when he got four shots in to win the game and the title.

The evening got under way with a men v ladies game of bowls which was narrowly won by the men with the score at 66-64 after 12 ends.

After a jacket potato supper, summer chairman Stewart Cameron welcomed everyone and presented pens to players on the winning rinks: Peter Pease (skip), Derek Cave, Ron Williamson, and Les Powell; Marion Windley (skip), Ann Betts, Sylvia Burrell and Linda Cave.

After supper, two spider competitions were won by Gina Patient and Derek Cave who were each presented with a bottle of wine.

Local clubs in the area play monthly – two rinks at home and two away – with two men and two women on each team.

Home games are played on Wednesday afternoons but away games can be played on any weekday.

The first match will be against Tye Gree with home and away games both being played on Wednesday May 16.

Shirley and Roy Weekley, John Rew and John Beare qualified for admission by scoring the maximum number of points on one end during a game.

The Hot Shots Club is run by Bowls International magazine which has announced the accolade in the latest issue.

The four bowlers will each receive a certificate and Hot Shots badge to mark their achievement.
